Here at World Travel for Couples I’ve been working diligently on creating THE Definitive Guide to Hiking in Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia in southern Chile. So today, just to whet your appetite, here’s one of our favorite pictures from this hiker’s paradise:

Why I’m Writing THE Definitive Post to Hiking Torres del Paine

We didn’t start planning this adventure until we were in Buenos Aires and about a month away from heading to TDP, which was also right smack dab in the middle of high season (Dec-Feb).  We had done the plan as you go thing for most of the trip, and it worked out fine.  While in the end it all worked out for TDP, it was a giant hassle at times, and we spent hours upon hours trying to find the best information.

There is plenty of information, too much even, but it all seemed to be scattered about in many different places.  There wasn’t one good site to go to find out EVERYTHING.  We had so many questions:

1. What is the “W” Trek we keep hearing about?
2. What is the Full Circuit?
3. What’s the difference?
4. Do we have to camp?
5. What is a refugio?
6. How do we book refugios?
7. How do we book camp sites?
8. What kind of clothes will we need?  Gear?  Food?
9. How do we get to and from the park?
10. What are the costs associated?

All are just a sampling of questions we had, and it seemed like we had to go to a different site to get them all answered

So what I decided to do was to get all this information into one place.  That’s why I created THE Definitive Guide for Trekking in Torres del Paine, which will include EVERYTHING you need to know about hiking and trekking in this outdoorsman’s paradise.  All in all, it’s about 3400 words worth of information (with plenty of pretty pictures of course) that will be broken up into 4 separate posts.

What’s the schedule?

Tomorrow, Thursday, February 3, will see a city guide to Puerto Natales, the base for hiking in Torres del Paine.  On Friday, February 4, to get you really motivated to hike TDP, I’ll put out a picture post.  Then next week I’ll unveil what I’ve been working all week on, THE Definitive Guide to Hiking in Torres del Paine National Park, broken up into 4 parts:

1. The “W” or the Full Circuit: Which Route to Take?
2. All You Need to Know about Packing for a Trek in TDP
3. Where to Sleep When Hiking TDP
4. Transportation, Admission, and Costs

Then next Friday, February 11, I’ll have combine all four into one massive post to make it easier to use when you plan that trip to this hiker’s mecca in Patagonia.
